4th of July Party Planning Tips

4th of July weekend is a time for reflection, celebrations, and appreciation for our Country’s freedom. Throughout the weekend, many will host or attend a backyard cookout, or party hop from BBQ to fireworks to beaches. For those doing all the above, achieving a fun, laid back 4th of July party vibe is easier said than done when you look at the planning and prep involved! Check out our favorite planning tips for creating an awesome, low-maintenance party that keeps the celebrations loud, fun and well into the night!

  1. Invite friends, family, and count on an extra few: Let people know about the party ASAP! There will be parades, fire works, beach days, and other BBQ’s to work around, so the earlier people know, the better they can schedule their attendance. Always be prepared for a few extra people to tag along with family or friends that are in town, or other party go-ers that were picked up along the way. The more the merrier!
  2. Get Crafty, DIY, and Decorate: Check out Target for trendy decor, or the dollar store for affordable items in bulk. When it comes to DIY, Pinterest is your best friend. No, no, not the fancy, time-consuming projects that are boasted as “easy” but actually turn out to be Pinterest fails – but there actually are cute, fun, ideas that are truly easy. See some below!
  3. All the Salads, Meats, & Desserts: No cookout is complete without every kind of salad (potato, pasta, greens), burgers, dogs, sausages, refreshing fruits and sweet cupcakes. Fire up the grill and put your grillmaster to work; make sure the outdoor bar area is stocked, cold, and good for guests to help themselves. Set up a buffet area with paper and plastic serve ware for easy clean up. Here are some healthy BBQ ideas from Her Healthy Balance.

  4. Games, Games, and More Games! 4th of July is a time to be outside, watch the parades go by, enjoy the fireworks, and be with loved ones. Set up an array of games to be played in the backyard – bag toss, volleyball net, water balloons, slip n slide, sparklers, and more.
