Health Tips for Cold and Flu Season

Despite the uncharacteristically warm weather this season, the cooler temps are creeping in, and with it comes cold and flu season. There are lots of tips and tricks to keeping yourself healthy, even at the first sign of a cold trickling in. Through healthy habits, exercise and a dash of purell, you’ll be more likely to avoid getting sick this Fall and Winter.

Vitamin C & Zinc: Aside from taking a vitamin supplement, there are many foods that can offer bacteria fighting nutrients. Eating foods that are high in germ-fighting nutrients help boost the immune system. Vitamin C can be found in many fruits, and protein-rich foods boast high zinc levels, like meat, chicken & peanut butter.

Ginger: This superhero root is a natural anti-nausea remedy. Boil fresh ginger root for a warming tea, or sip on all-natural ginger ale to fight off the stomach flu.

Exercise: A cardio workout will help release endorphins to create a flush of happy energetic feelings. Regular exercise creates a strong, healthy body to fight off infection.

Purell Wipes: When you are traveling on public transportation, it’s important to wipe down arm rests/seats/airplane touch screens, and your hands before eating. Many public places have too many people passing through to provide adequate cleaning procedures, like gas station pumps, restrooms, subway stations, airplane seats/airports, etc. Having a little travel pack of wipes, allows you to give yourself and your surroundings a quick wipe down when traveling from one place to the other.

Drink Lots of Water: Staying hydrated can maintain body functionality, giving you a clear mind and optimal alertness. Flushing your body with fluids also cleanses the system. Better yet? Infuse it with Vitamin C powered fruits!

Wash your hands before eating! Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth when in a public place where you are susceptible to more germs.
