You’re probably asking yourself questions like…
How can something as simple as fresh juice be so beneficial to my health? Why is the fiber taken out? Why don’t I just eat the whole fruit or veggie? Why should I juice if my ancestors didn’t have juicers, isn’t juicing just another fad? Why, why, why!?
Those are all common questions we hear all the time. The fact of the matter is that everyday we are exposed to hundreds of toxins, unlike our ancestors; Our bodies simply cannot effectively process the number of toxins we are exposed on a daily basis. These toxins can be found in food, air, water, medications, plastic, beauty and household products. When these toxins accumulate we not only gain weight (toxins are stored in fat cells), but we begin to develop disease as well.
Juicing is used as a tool to help the body heal and detoxify itself by nourishing our cells with essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytochemicals. Through juicing the insoluble fiber is taken out and the soluble remains for probiotic digestive support- aka, giving the digestive system a break! The body can then fully support the seven channels of elimination by utilizing the nutrients to draw out toxins, balance hormones, alkalize the body, boost immunity and stimulate healing.
I WANT TO GET STARTED…HOW CAN I JUICE AT HOME?
There’s a juicer for every almost budget. If you don’t have a juicer yet and aren’t ready to take the plunge, we suggest healthy smoothies instead. You could buy The Magic Bullet smoothie maker ($50); if you go the smoothie route try to include a balance of fruit and vegetables in your recipe. Whether you decide to juice or smoothie, we suggest watching a few tutorials on YouTube to better familiarize yourself with your new machine.
If you’re in the market for a juicer we suggest doing your research and learning from people who have the one you want. Personal experiences, stories and recipes are always the best advice. With that said, here’s a little about the juicers we’ve tried at home and recommend: Cuisinart Juicer ($150), Krups Infinity Slow Juicer ($280) and Breville Juicer ($150).
The Cuisinart Juicer and Breville Juicer are both inexpensive for a juicer, but are pretty powerful and can handle a lot of wear. Both are pretty hard to clean and the Cusinart in particular is a little dangerous because of the sharp blades. The Krups Infinity Slow Juicer is a little less powerful, but much safer & easier to clean because the blade isn’t really sharp. All three juicers are a great option for at home use.
