Orange Power Detox Smoothie

If you’re like us, the guilt is setting in for the two weeks of continuous eating, drinking, and celebrating galore. While most of us are officially back to work, the weight of the holiday season seemed to settle into our desk chairs in a snug manner. Fitting with the New Year theme, it’s only appropriate that we hit the reset button with some healthy eating habits, and a gut-wrenching (in a good way!) smoothie cleanse.

Just as you strengthen your body, refresh your skin, and brush your teeth, your digestive system needs to be detoxed from the inside out. There are many antioxidant rich foods that provide nutrients, and healthy disease-fighting bacteria to your gut. In the spirit of keeping things simple, we gathered our favorite ingredients and created a power detox smoothie as the perfect start to the day.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 of a cut and peeled orange (or 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice)
  • 1/2 inch of ginger, peeled & diced (more or less depending on preference)
  • 1/2 of a ripe banana to add a creamy texture
  • 1 tsp of turmeric powder, or ground fresh turmeric
  • 1/2 of a lemon (peeled)
  • 1/2 cup of coconut water
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Ice (optional)

Based on smoothie preference, you can either use the juice squeezed from fruits, or puree the fruit itself without the peel.

Add all ingredients to blender and mix on high to desired consistency. Add ice or a small amount of water to achieve a more juice-like consistency, or skip to thicken. Add to your favorite smoothie tumbler, and you’re ready to go!

Many of these ingredients have natural benefits and nutrients to refresh and replenish your system. Like the rest of your body, you have the ability to take control of what makes you feel your best. Regular exercise, healthy eating, and a general awareness of the food you are consuming will lead to better decisions and conscious purchasing.
